Poker strategy: Watch the process to know more about style of the game of your opponents.
It is always to watch how your opponents react to your actions, otherwise, you can pay for rashness speaking literally.
I wish to confirm the words with one small example. Recently I could play with rather skilled player, the man of average years. He played rather aggressively, had a considerable quantity of counters. Some time, having observed his game, I have noticed, that:
1. He does the rate if all players do the check.
2. If someone does the rate irrespective of the fact which cards he has on hands, he accepts the rate.
3. If on the flop there is nothing, he will not lift and accept the rate.
4. More often the bluff with an incomplete combination has no influence.
5. If someone lifts the rate, it is more often he accepts it, than throws off the cards.
6. Having collected on river any combination, he always accepts the rate. For example, if on hands he had seven and a jack, and on a table ten, the eight, an ace, a three and a jack he will accept the rate lay, without doubting.
In that case it is better to play with such an opponent easy and cautiously. At one of distributions I had a pair of kings on hands. On the flop six, three and the lady laid. The object of my supervision has bet, I have, certainly accepted it. On the turn the opponent has made the check, I have counted, and, to my surprise after that he has quickly hastened to get rid of his cards.
This moment was strongly carved into my memory and also I have decided, that the knowledge of this situation is quite useful to me. After a while I caught the luck, and I on hands had two kings. On flop there were following cards: ten, the nine and the five. My opponent has counted, and I have lifted it, without thinking for so long. He has accepted my rate again. On turn three has come. The opponent has made the check; of course, I have counted. As it was expected, the opponent had again dumped cards. Since then I often could play with this player. I consider, that he has understood, that:
If I do not have good cards I dump cards or do the check;
If I have strong cards on hands, I lift the rate on the flop or I do the rate on turn;
My opponent has understood, that the plan of my game is focused on the fact that that I throw off cards if I don’t have something and, on the contrary, I raise the rate, if I have a strong combination; therefore my opponent threw off at once cards when I started to do rates or to raise them.
What is result of my actions? I have directed his supervision against him – I began to bluff more often, naturally, it made quite a good profit for me. In one of games I have lifted the rate on flop, and I was a little bit lucky: I have received a free card. In spite of the fact that I was lucky to reveal the secrets of y opponent he seemed to perceive me as not a skilled player, watching my conservative game. I could take an advantage of it: as one would expect he began to play against me more aggressively, but I was already ready to it.
The case described above with the opponent shows, that it is not enough just one supervision over players. This information has not enough that the nobility as opponents will play against you. You should consider game since that moment when you will let the opponents know when you are going to play. It is the key moment. Certainly, in the beginning you should play so that your opponents “have determined” a manner of your game and tactics, and then to use their erroneous knowledge in the mercenary purposes. Also you should not be afraid to play in the beginning and with weaker cards, it is necessary for estimating, whether your opponents do mistakes or not. Remember that if you simply watch the game of your opponents and do nothing, for certain you will get into a trap.
Also pay attention that the player whom you have given the sack many times, will be very frequent to behave very spitefully with you. He will play most likely more cautiously with other players, but it is necessary for you to lift, for example, the rate on pre-flop, he necessarily will support it, without having on hands any strong cards. It is natural, that he thirsts for revenges. In that case it is better for you to pass to quiet and cautious tactics of the game and, having received, for example, to steam of aces or kings you should take an advantage of force of these cards.
